PDF Format (Adobe Acrobat Reader)

PBI CD-ROMs and online course materials are published in PDF format and can be read in Acrobat free software.

General Information and Search Engine Alert

PBI Press publishes a line of stand-alone legal references, and uses Adobe Acrobat to publish most of these books on CD-ROM as well as in hard copy. The exact contents of each CD-ROM vary, but generally most or all of the printed book is on the CD. Our Acrobat CDs have a search feature and hypertext links enabling you to swiftly locate exactly the information you need.

ALERT - Search Engine (added March 12, 2002)

You may be using a version of Adobe Acrobat Reader that lacks a search engine. If so, you won't be able to search the electronic (CD-ROM) version of a PBI book until you upgrade your copy to include the search feature.

More and more web sites offer downloadable forms. Many of these are in PDF format, which requires the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader. That program is available free on the web. For forms, its most useful feature is the fact that your copies of documents will look exactly like the originals. Once you have downloaded the forms, you can save them, and print them on a laser printer. (NOTE: you can't save a filled-in form on your computer with Acrobat Reader. You need the full version of Acrobat, or a less expensive version currently called Acrobat Approval.)

How to Get Adobe Acrobat Reader

If you buy a PBI CD-ROM in Acrobat format, the CD includes a full-featured installable version of Acrobat Reader.

Adobe's web site has a page from which you can download the program. Before you download the program, be sure to select the "option for searching PDF files and accessibility support." Acrobat Reader comes with detailed instructions and explanations, including an on-line help file. Although you may want to use the program right away, we strongly recommend that you read the instructions. It will give you much more trouble-free installation and use.
