General Web Directories and Search Engines

There are many sites that allow you to "surf" the web by exploring various categories of information, or entering search criteria. Here are a few.

(NOTE: We also have a page of links to law-related web directories and search engines).

Collections of Directories and Search Engines

  • SearchAllInOne.com -- Includes links to Web search engines, people finders, news and weather collections, software, publications, and desk reference collections

  • INFOMINE -- "Scholarly Internet resource collections." According to Genie Tyburski, INFOMINE functions like a library catalog pointing researchers to information sources of superior substance and quality. All entries offer the site name and URL as well as a description and links to subject terms for related resources. (Genie Tyburski, law librarian at Ballard Spahr, produces The Virtual Chase web site.)

  • Ixquick -- metasearch engine

  • MetaEureka -- "may be the cleanest interface to querying multiple search engines that I have seen. In fact, it may be a bit too clean. " according to Genie Tyburski of The Virtual Chase.

  • Pandia -- "guide to Internet search engines and directories! Get tools, news, tutorials and resources."

  • QueryServer -- "Ten general purpose Internet search engines are queried, and the results are combined and categorized according to the options you choose."
