In the Afternoon: Gender in the Legal Profession: Communication and Office Strategies

What you don’t know can hurt you. Especially when it comes to gender.

Let lawyers and educators Sarah Wald and Steven Stark be your guides as you explore with others the latest important research on how to make gender differences work for you — not against you. While gender is non-binary, we'll explore what that means for the research, and explore the descriptive and prescriptive stereotypes of "male" and "female" style.

From the courtroom to the boardroom, from getting a new job to being viewed as more effective in your current one, they’ll look at the myriad of ways you can make who you are into a distinct advantage and minimize the risk of misunderstandings. Along the way, you’ll pick up dozens of tips that will transform everything from the way you approach witnesses to the way office meetings should be structured to get the best solutions to problems.

  • Appearances before judges: should you change your style based on who you're speaking to?
  • Office hierarchy: who gets ahead when, where, and why.
  • What MIGHT you do differently based on your audience?
  • The 3 major mistakes law firms and businesses make in formulating sexual harassment policies.
