Employers always face a challenging array of ever-changing workplace laws and trends at both the federal and state levels. This fast-paced session will update employers on the hottest topics and trends of 2019, from marijuana to #MeToo, gender identity and sexual orientation discrimination, privacy and AI and myriad wage and hour developments, including the new salary threshold regulations, independent contractor misclassification and salary history bans. This session will also examine the most recent U.S. Supreme Court cases and their impact on the workplace; discuss changes in federal agency regulations and policy (EEOC, Wage and Hour, OSHA, NLRB and OFCCP), and highlight the growing trend of states that are churning out employee-protective laws and how they mesh, or don’t mesh, with parallel federal laws; and provide a forecast of what employers can expect in 2020.
