  • Environmental Protection, Department of -- an impressive full-featured site with a wealth of information as well as the opportunity for public participation. Powerful search engine.
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 3 -- The Frequently Asked Questions page is a good place to start, with information on basic environmental issues from air to wetlands. The site also has information on various regional programs such as the Chesapeake Bay Program and hazardous waste.
  • Environmental Professional's Virtual Desktop -- Described as a work platform for environmental professionals, this page on the clay.net Web site purports to be the all-encompassing virtual desktop of URLs for environmental lawyers. It's not too far from the truth. There are sites for federal and state government agencies, private organizations, commercial entities covering legal issues, news, jobs, seminars, and more.
  • Pennsylvania Brownfields Home Page -- Excellent site from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, with a multitude of resources.
  • Great Lakes Information Network -- The Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN) describes itself as a "cooperative project of agencies and organizations to provide one place for people to find information relating to the binational Great Lakes region." Among the core participants in GLIN are the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Council of Great Lakes Industries, the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the International Joint Commission, and the Northeast-Midwest Institute. The link to the Great Lakes Water Quality Initiative is useful more for the information about the initiative than for the text, since it is not word searchable. If you want to search the text, use the search engine at the Federal Register site. Also links to the Great Lakes Toxic Substances Control Agreement and the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.
  • U.S. EPA GLNPO-Great Lakes National Program Office-- Information on the Great Lakes Basin ecosystem, including monitoring schedules, environmental software programs, and a regional counsel link.
  • Pennsylvania Chemical Industry Council -- Information from the state trade association representing chemical manufacturers and distributors, along with several environmental consulting and engineering firms.
  • Society of Environmental Journalists -- Topical listing of breaking and anticipated, national environmental news stories with contact sources and telephone numbers. The Web site also lists recent and forthcoming government and organization reports with links or directions on how to obtain them.
