About

The Premier Event for Family Law Attorneys

This year’s Institute will provide the latest practical information and practice hints available. Whether you are a “veteran” of family
law, just beginning your practice, or somewhere in between, you are sure to benefit from the knowledge and experience of each faculty
member.

Our sessions:

Love, Sex, Money, Marriage and Death: Estate Planning Aspects of Divorce

Discussion and reviewing an estate plan upon divorce, sale of a personal residence, income and gift tax issues of property settlements, dividing a charitable remainder trust in divorce, liability for joint income tax returns, tax consequences of dividing stock options, deferred compensation and retirement benefits and naming beneficiaries after divorce. Also discusses how assets held in an irrevocable trust for the benefit of one of the spouses is affected by the divorce.

It's Not You, It's...No, Wait, It Is You

How many times have you thought, “my practice would be easier right now if I could just fire client X?” Come learn the ethical and appropriate way to terminate a client relationship.

Custody Fatigue Syndrome & Generation Z

What happens when a teenager has been a “loyal soldier” in the past but doesn’t want to follow a custody order anymore?  This esteemed panel will address legal and therapeutic approaches to enforcing custody orders with teenagers, how to protect clients in court, and the judicial response to the parents who say “I can’t make them” and “this is what they want.”

Case Law, Rules & Legislative Updates

This panel will discuss the most recent appellate decisions available in an interactive panel of attorneys with various levels of experience who will offer their insight, wisdom and practice pointers on how these decisions will impact family law issues in the future.
