10:15-11:15 am
Avoiding Legal Malpractice

The program will provide the perspective of a risk manager, addressing some of the scenario’s attorneys may encounter as we move toward a post-COVID environment. Engagement letters, remote work, cloud computing and cybersecurity are among the chief topics. Attend and get tips on steps you can take to cover your practice and be prepared if a claim is asserted against you or your firm.

11:30-12:30 pm

Lauren and Arlene will work through common (and no-so-common) scenarios in estate planning in an interview format.  Included will be issues involved in Medicaid planning, proactive approaches to long term care planning and considerations involved in special needs trusts.

Tuesday July 27

2:00-3:00 pm
Retirement and Succession Planning

What does retirement mean to you?  Work until you drop? (And leave the “clean-up” to others?) Scale back and work just a little?  Do you want to  salvage sweat equity by selling or transitioning your practice?  Or will you just turn off the lights and close the door on your last day? This session will discuss your options, with an eye on your obligations to your clients, what the Rules permit, and the myriad of practical implications that come into play.

3:15-4:15 pm
Managing Client Expectations

Setting client expectations is a critical part of being a successful lawyer. During this fast-paced program attorneys from a variety of practice areas will offer you tips and tricks for making sure that you are properly managing your clients’ expectations from the first moment and throughout the case.

10:15-11:15 am
Pennsylvania’s Intermediate Appellate Courts:  What Solo and Small Firm Practitioners Need to Know

Let’s face it- the Pennsylvania Rules of Appellate Procedure are long.  If your firm does not specialize in appellate work, or you do not work for a large firm with an appellate division, it can take a seemingly inordinate amount of time to ensure you are handling an appeal properly, let alone effectively. The Superior Court and Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania both have legal staffs devoted to examining the propriety of appeals filed in those Courts and preparing the appeals for their panels of Judges. Listen as the chiefs of those legal staffs offer some procedural steps, helpful tips, and advice to ensure you are providing effective representation on appeal.

11:30-12:30
Section Meeting

5:00-6:00
Happy Hour

Friday July 30

9:00-10:00 am
