Many lawyers are recruited to serve on the boards of nonprofits expressly because they are lawyers. However, serving on a board presents a unique set of challenges for a lawyer, who must balance the role of a board member with their responsibility as an attorney. This session provides an explanation of the fiduciary duties of board members, guidelines for spotting issues, and practical pointers for avoiding potential pitfalls.
