Overview

This program will address both common and unique support issues, including what is and is not includable as income, deferred compensation and other forms of complex compensation, perquisites, how to treat bonuses, double-dipping issues, duty to report/retroactivity/arrears, defenses to spousal support and APL, life insurance and other security, tax credits, obligations with respect to adult children with disabilities, deviation issues, and more.

Faculty

Meredith Brennan Esq.

Ms. Brennan is a partner with the law firm of Momjian Anderer LLC, based in Philadelphia. Ms. Brennan the former Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Family Law Section and a member of its Executive Committee. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Pennsylvania Family Lawyer; she served as a Council Member for the Pennsylvania State Bar Association’s Family Law Section; and she was a member of the Section’s Programming Committee. Ms. Brennan is a frequent volunteer for Philadelphia’s Volunteers for the Indigent Program. Ms. Brennan has published numerous articles on a variety of family law topics in The Legal Intelligencer, Pennsylvania Law Weekly, The Matrimonial Strategist, and others. She has lectured on custody, support, and divorce issues for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and local and state bar associations, as well as at the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges. She has been named a “Pennsylvania Super Lawyer” since 2017; and previously a “Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star” by Philadelphia Magazine every year since 2005. She is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. 

Lauren Sorrentino Esq.

Ms. Sorrentino is a shareholder and Chair of Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba’s Family Law Practice. She earned her J.D. in 2002 from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley. She completed her B.A. at Columbia University. She focuses her practice on matrimonial and family law, including divorce, equitable distribution, alimony, prenuptial and property settlement agreements, child support, child custody, and protection from abuse. Ms. Sorrentino is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the Family Law section, and is also listed in Super Lawyers. Ms. Sorrentino is actively involved in the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Family Law Section and served as a Council Member of the Section. She currently co-chairs the Rules Committee. Ms. Sorrentino is actively involved in the Family Law Committees of the Bar Association of Lehigh County and the Northampton County Bar Association. She also serves as a Team Captain for the Judge Donald E. Wieand Barristers Inn. She has published articles on a variety of family law topics and has served as a panelist at family law educational programs. Ms. Sorrentino is a member of the Board of Directors of Community Services for Children.

Gerald Shoemaker Jr., Esq.

Mr. Shoemaker is a shareholder at Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller in Plymouth Meeting. He concentrates his practice in domestic relations issues, including equitable distribution, alimony, custody and support matters. Mr. Shoemaker has also handled a variety of issues arising out of same-sex relationships. Sensitive to his clients’ needs, he is settlement-oriented but ready to litigate when necessary. Mr. Shoemaker has been repeatedly recognized as a leader in family law and was named one of the Greater Philadelphia Region’s Ten Leaders in Divorce Law, 45 & Under, by the Ten Leaders Cooperative. He has earned multiple recognitions by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Magazine as a Rising Star in Family Law and, subsequently, as a Super Lawyer. Mr. Shoemaker is committed to the practice of family law, evidenced by his active participation in the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA), which selected him as one of 10 members to participate in its prestigious leadership program. He is a frequent lecturer on family law topics for both the PBA and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Mr. Shoemaker is a member of the PBA Family Law Section (FLS) and he serves as the second vice chair. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He also serves as an editor for the American Bar Association’s quarterly publication, Family Advocate. He offers free legal clinics at the Women’s Center of Montgomery County, an organization that focuses on freedom from domestic violence and other forms of abuse. He is a member of the Doris Jonas Freed Inns of Court. Mr. Shoemaker is a board member of the Regional Center for Women in the Arts, whose mission is to advance women in all aspects of art. A graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Law, he received his B.A. from Duquesne University.
