Overview
The PA Bar Institute’s Virtual Technology Institute offers attorneys practical, timely guidance on the technology issues shaping modern legal practice. This full-day, CLE-eligible program equips lawyers with strategies to protect client information, avoid fraud, implement emerging technology ethically, and plan for disaster and succession in a digital practice.
Attendees will explore: cybersecurity basics and breach response, wire fraud prevention, intellectual property issues in tech, ethical considerations for AI, and practical technology tips to support succession planning and mobility. Sessions are led by experienced practitioners who provide actionable advice to help you practice more securely, efficiently, and ethically.

1. Avoiding Wire Fraud, and a Potential Recovery Option via FBI and FinCEN
Learn measures to prevent clients from wiring funds to the wrong account and explore the FBI/FinCEN Financial Fraud Kill Chain process as a potential recovery option for fraudulent wire transfers of $50,000 or more.

Frederic M. Wilf, Esq.
Mr. Wilf practices technology and intellectual property as the managing partner of Wilftek LLC. The majority of his work has been in information technology, including software and hardware, cloud, ecommerce, mobile and blockchain technologies, as well as data privacy and other compliance work. He also works in the chemicals, electronics, and pharmaceuticals industries. He works with clients of all sizes (one-person startups to Fortune 500 to Global 10,000) to develop strategies for the protection of their intellectual property, including patents (not a patent agent), trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, industrial designs and mask works (semiconductor designs). He also works with charities and other non-profit entities. Mr. Wilf has taught copyright law and cyberlaw as an adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School, and was formerly the editor of a four-volume treatise, “Computer Software: Protection / Liability / Law / Forms” (Thomson Reuters). He plans and speaks at continuing legal education seminars on technology and intellectual property; including several CLE seminars going back to the 1990s. Krishna A. Jani, Esq., CIPP/US
Ms. Jani is a member of Flaster Greenberg’s Litigation Department focusing her practice on complex commercial litigation. She is also a member of the firm’s cybersecurity and data privacy law practice groups through which she advises clients on matters related to regulatory compliance, data breach response, and crafting privacy-by-design policies. Prior to joining the firm, she was an attorney at a boutique litigation firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and served as a judicial law clerk to The Honorable Timothy W. Chell, P.J.Cv. in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Ms. Jani received her B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from Virginia Commonwealth University. Krishna then worked for two years as a paralegal before attending law school. She went on to obtain her J.D. from William & Mary Law School where she received the Powell Scholarship for outstanding oral advocacy skills in the Trial Advocacy course. While in law school, Krishna served as the Executive Editor of William & Mary Journal of Women and the Law and as a Trial Advocacy Teaching Assistant. She was also a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team. In 2020, Ms. Jani became a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Edward J. Howard, Esq.
Edward J. Howard, Esq., is the founder and managing attorney of Howard IP Law Group, PC, an intellectual property law firm based in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. His practice focuses on patent and trademark counseling and prosecution, and he works closely with product, R&D, and executive teams to align IP strategy with business and market objectives. Prior to founding the firm, Mr. Howard was a partner at Duane Morris LLP, where he also served on the firm’s Partners’ Board. Before beginning his legal career, he worked as an electrical engineer at GE and Lockheed Martin Corporation on satellite and undersea sonar systems.
A registered patent attorney, Mr. Howard has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications involving electronic, electromechanical, optical, computer, and fintech-related technologies. He has extensive experience in preparing non-infringement and invalidity opinions, competitive assessments, due-diligence analyses, invention harvesting, and cross-functional engineering collaborations. He also supports litigation teams in matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including Inter Partes Review (IPR), ex parte reexaminations, and prosecution-related appeals.
Mr. Howard has presented on patent and intellectual property related topics for the Montgomery County Bar Association (MBA), Bucks County Bar Association (BCBA), Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA), and the Philadelphia chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He currently serves as Chair of the MBA Intellectual Property Committee and Vice Chair of the PBA Intellectual Property Law Section, is a past Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Government IP Rights Committee, and serves as Chair of the PBA Pro Bono Patent Committee.
Mr. Howard holds degrees in Physics from Franklin & Marshall College, in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, and received his J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School.
Kim L. Lengert, Esq.
Ms. Lengert is the Founding Attorney of Lengert Law, an estate planning and administration firm that serves people throughout Pennsylvania. She received her J.D. from Widener School of Law in Harrisburg, also receiving a Law and Government Certificate for her work in International Environmental Law. Ms. Lengert is also an ordained pastor with a Masters in Divinity from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and spent years developing churches in Pennsylvania. An aficionado of technology, Ms. Lengert developed Lengert Law with complete virtual access, enabling her to provide representation in an efficient, focused fashion. She now serves her clients from her desk in Maine, overlooking a field of blueberries and the ocean where she resides with her spouse and their dogs. Ms. Lengert is a recognized speaker for both legal education and community organizations, and volunteers with several organizations that seek to provide people a better and more stable life, including those related to access to legal services, health care, and food security. She is a Past Chair and current Council member of the Solo and Small Firm Section; a former member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s House of Delegates; a member of the Berks County Bar Association; a member and previous office holder of MENSA; and a supporter of Doberman Rescue, an organization caring for Dobermans which have been abused. She is admitted to the Federal Bar of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Bar. In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities and restoration of antique vehicles.
Jennifer J. Riley, Esq.
Attorney Riley founded the Law Offices of Jennifer J. Riley in 2013, a boutique Family Law firm offering mediation and litigation services in the five major counties of the Philadelphia area. She and her team of lawyers focus on providing client-focused services, with an emphasis on compassion and care. Riley earned her undergraduate (B.A.) and graduate (M.A.) degrees at Villanova University, and her law degree at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law (J.D.). In 2022, Attorney Riley was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for the Greater Montgomery County as Businessperson of the Year. In 2021, she was named the Top Woman Owned Business on the Main Line of Philadelphia by the Main Line Chamber of Commerce. Her Firm was also named one of the Top 100 Fastest Growing Law Firms (#20) by Law Firm 500 in 2017. Lewis D. Sorokin, Esq.
Lewis Sorokin is an associate attorney at Wilftek, a boutique technology and intellectual property firm in Ardmore, PA, where his practice focuses on technology contracts, intellectual property licensing, and AI governance. A frequent speaker and writer at the intersection of tech, IP, and the arts, he has presented for PBI, Drexel University, West Chester University, WXPN’s Non-CommVention, the Trenton Computer Festival, and several bar associations. He has served as an adjunct professor at Drexel’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, teaching Music Industry Contracts and Legal Issues. He is also the author of This Week in AI, a newsletter covering developments in artificial intelligence. Lewis has received honors including Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America, and the ABA Intellectual Property Law Section’s Young Lawyer Fellowship. Joseph F. Saporito, III, Esq.
Joseph F. Saporito, III is an associate in the firm’s Philadelphia office. As a member of the Cyber practice group, he works with clients on cyber-related incidents including determining the scope of the event, planning the appropriate response, and developing a coordinated approach by bringing in outside expert support as needed. He also ensures that his clients comply with all regulatory and reporting obligations required by state and federal law.
Prior to joining C&W, Mr. Saporito served as a general litigation attorney representing clients in commercial litigation, criminal defense, civil litigation, orphans’ court (guardianship and estate) litigation, and real estate litigation matters, and served as a law clerk for President Judge Janine Edwards in the Court of Common Pleas of Wayne County, Pennsylvania. He also gained valuable experience working for a strategic business management firm as a data analyst for over 6 years.
Mr. Saporito is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and is a Zone Five Delegate. He is also a member of the Lackawanna County Bar Association, the Wayne County Bar Association and the Wilkes-Barre Law & Library Association.
Mr. Saporito received his B.A. from Duquesne University in 2014 and his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2017. He received his M.S., summa cum laude, in Applied Data Science from Syracuse University School of Information Studies in 2023.
In his spare time, Mr. Saporito enjoys golfing, whitetail and pheasant hunting, fitness, dining out, and spending time with his family, friends, and his dog. He also serves on the board of directors for PA Inclusive, a non-profit organization that offers inclusive education and personalized support services for children with special needs.
Yanai Z. Siegel, Esq.
Mr. Siegel is Corporate Counsel, Planning & Development for Appliance Dealers Cooperative, a 12-state regional major home appliance buying group with substantial warehouse facilities in central NJ, Lewisberry PA (near Harrisburg) and Imperial PA (near Pittsburgh). He is also Counsel for the NY/NJ law firm of Shafer Partners, LLP, as well as associated with Your House Counsel®, a national consortium of insurance and corporate liability defense law firms. Mr. Siegel is the former Chair of the Aeronautical and Space Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and is a former Chair of the Aerospace Law Division of the American Bar Association’s Science and Technology Law Section, and is the Co-Chair of the Your House Counsel Cyber Security and Data Privacy Practice Group. He is also a member of the PBA Business Law Section, the PBA Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Committee, the PBA In-House Counsel Committee, the American Bar Association, as well as the New York and New Jersey State Bar Associations. Mr. Siegel received his BS in Business Administration from Georgetown University for Accounting and Finance, MBA from Rutgers University for Marketing and Management, and his JD from the Rutgers-Camden Law School. He is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the US District Court of New Jersey. Mr. Siegel has previously presented CLE sessions on drone law issues for both the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and CLE sessions on cyber security and data privacy law for the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Bar Associations.
Hunter B. Schenck, Esq.
Hunter B. Schenck provides legal services to businesses and individuals in the areas of litigation and real estate. Her practice largely focuses on landlord/tenant matters including leases, evictions, ejectments, and accompanying issues. She also focuses on collections, mechanics liens, and helping home improvement contractors. In 2024, Hunter was unanimously elected to Shareholder in recognition and honor of her legal practice. Hunter has participated in multiple trials in both a solo and co-counsel capacity. She tried a week-long federal jury trial that resulted in a verdict of almost $1 million for the client. Hunter enjoys the opportunity to enter the courtroom and wants to help her clients obtain their ideal outcome for each case. Hunter was selected as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for her fourth consecutive year in 2024. She was elected to the Board of the York County Bar Association in 2023 and has continued as a member of the Membership, CLE, and Law Day Committees. She is also a member of the Herbert Cohen Inns of Court. She received the York County Bar Foundation Pro Bono Award in 2021. In 2020, Hunter was the Chair of the Young Lawyers Section. Hunter serves as the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Zone 3 Co-Chair and is also a member of the Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee and Technology Committee. Hunter was a member of the 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022 Bar Stools Cast, a parody musical that serves as a fundraiser for the York County Bar Foundation and the Belmont Theatre. Jennifer L. Ellis, Esq.
Jennifer Ellis is an attorney licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and the principal of Jennifer Ellis, JD, LLC, a law practice management and technology consulting firm. Her legal practice focuses on ethics, and her consulting work assists lawyers and legal organizations with technology selection, implementation, and risk management, including cybersecurity and the practical use of artificial intelligence in legal practice.
Jennifer has extensive experience in legal education and professional development and has worked closely with bar associations and continuing legal education providers on the development and presentation of programs for lawyers at all stages of practice.
