Overview
This program will examine the intersection of forensic accounting and business valuation in family-law matters, with particular emphasis on the financial analysis necessary to determine whether a business valuation is based upon complete, reliable, and properly documented information. The program will also address personal goodwill and provide practical guidance for reviewing and evaluating business valuation reports in divorce litigation.
The program is designed to give attorneys, judges, forensic accountants, and business valuation professionals a practical, substantive understanding of the issues that arise in valuing closely held businesses in family-law matters. A central focus will be the relationship between forensic accounting and business valuation, including the importance of reviewing and testing the underlying financial records and supporting documentation before relying upon the conclusions expressed in a valuation report.
The objective is to provide attendees with practical guidance to help them identify valuation issues, evaluate the reliability of the financial information presented, and more effectively review and understand business valuation reports in divorce litigation.
