Faculty

Justin Schorr PhD

Justin Schorr, Ph.D. studied at Northwestern University and George Washington University, earning his doctorate in civil and environmental (transportation) engineering in 2015. After completing nearly 25 years of formal education, Justin accredits his most valuable training to his father and grandfather, both of whom were industry leaders in collision reconstruction. Now the principal collision reconstruction engineer and president of DJS Associates, Inc., Justin specializes in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, and collisions involving vehicles, bicycles, tractor-trailers, and recreational vehicles. Previously an adjunct professor at GW, Justin has brought his engaging style of teaching to the legal, insurance, and engineering communities, offering CE and CLE accredited seminars on topic including Automated Vehicles, New Technology in Collision Reconstruction, and Engineering Animations. Outside of work, he loves to golf. He even named his son Tiger.

Arthur Novello Esq.

Mr. Novello is a
partner in the law firm of Dashevsky, Horwitz, Kuhn, Novello and Shorr, P.C.,
which maintains offices in both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Haddonfield,
New Jersey. He is admitted into practice and has tried numerous cases in the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and State of New Jersey. Mr. Novello is a
graduate of Temple University (BBA) and the Widener University School of Law
(JD) Mr. Novello is a past member of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Board of
Directors. Mr. Novello is currently a Senior Hearing Committee Member on
behalf of the Disciplinary Board of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has
served as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas
since the inception of the program and is frequently asked to serve as a
neutral arbitrator and mediator. He is a member of the Alternative Dispute
Resolution, Arbitration and Senior Attorney Committees of the Philadelphia
Bar Association. He has served as President of the Girard Estate Area
Residents Civic Association and is currently on the Board of Directors for
the Packer Park Civic Association, Stadium Council Special Services District
and the Widener University School of Law. Mr. Novello has made numerous
television appearances as a legal consultant. He has lectured on numerous
occasions to the judiciary and members of both the medical and legal
communities on substantive and ethical issues. Mr. Novello lectures in the
Temple University Law School LLM program. Mr. Novello has repeatedly been
designated a “Super Lawyer” and awarded the highest rating by his peers and
judges, including an “AV” rating in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Mr.
Novello has repeatedly been designated to be in the Top One Percent of the
lawyers in the United States.

Lisa Lenihan

Judge Lenihan has served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the U.S.D.C. for the Western District of Pennsylvania since April 2004. From January 2000 until her appointment to the bench she served as Assistant Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Before going in-house, Judge Lenihan was in private practice handling primarily corporate litigation matters. Judge Lenihan is a 1983 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law where she is teaching Mediation Skills and serves as a member of its Board of Visitors. In her role as a federal Magistrate Judge, Lenihan handles a wide variety of both criminal and civil cases. She was appointed by Chief Justice Roberts to the Federal Judicial Center’s Magistrate Judge Education Committie through which she  taught magistrate judges on a national level in a wide variety of areas, including mediation skills. She has also mediated hundreds of cases for her colleagues on the bench. Judge Lenihan was instrumental in developing the ADR Policies and Procedures for the Western District of Pennsylvania and serves on the Court’s Case Management and ADR Committee. She plans to retire in October of 2023 and start her own mediation practice as Judge Lenihan ADR. 

Brigid Alford Esq.

Ms. Alford is a member of the Professional Liability Department of Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman &  Goggin. She concentrates her practice in various areas of insurance defense and civil litigation, with a focus in insurance coverage matters and litigation of coverage and bad faith claims involving issues arising from motor vehicle, homeowner, professional liability, commercial general liability and other policies. She has more than 30 years of experience litigating cases in 53 of Pennsylvania’s 67 county courts, in all three of Pennsylvania’s federal district courts and before the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance. Her trial resume includes both jury and bench trials in over 20 counties throughout the state, from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. She has also argued before Pennsylvania’s Superior and Commonwealth Courts, as well as the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1983, Ms. Alford earned her J.D. from The Dickinson School of Law. She continues to serve as an adjunct assistant professor with the school’s award winning Trial Advocacy Program. She is a 1980 cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Allegheny College. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, where she participates annually in this organization’s Young Lawyers Division statewide High School Mock Trial Competition. She is a member of the Dauphin County and Cumberland County Bar Associations and a Master in the William J. Lipsitt American Inns of Court. Other professional associations include membership in CLM. Ms. Alford is a frequent lecturer throughout the state for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and other groups, speaking on a variety of subjects including insurance coverage, bad faith, civil trial practice and UM/UIM issues.

Timothy Knowles Esq.

Tim’s practice includes all aspects of civil litigation, including personal injury and commercial/business lawsuits. Tim has experience litigating cases in Pennsylvania state and federal courts. As a result of his successes, Tim has been named to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Star list. This distinction is given to lawyers under 40 and to no more than 2.5% of lawyers in the state. Tim is active in the Montgomery and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. He has been a member of the Montgomery Bar Association’s Leadership Academy and the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Bar Leadership Institute. He is Co-Chair of the Montgomery Bar Association’s Pro Bono, Access to Justice, and Community Service Committee. He also serves as Education Liaison to the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section. In recognition of his public service, Tim was awarded the Montgomery Bar Association’s 2022 Henry Stuckert Miller Public Service Award. Tim graduated from Temple University Law School in 2010, where he was in the top twenty-five percent of his class and served as a staff editor on the Temple Journal of Science, Technology, and Environmental Law. While in law school, Tim interned for Judges Abramson and Carrafiello in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, volunteered at the Defender Association of Philadelphia, and spent a semester as an intern with the Claims Unit of the Philadelphia Law Department. As an undergraduate, Tim studied double bass performance at Temple University, where he graduated summa cum laude. When Tim is not practicing law, he likes to listen to music, spend time with his family, and study the Korean language. He serves on the board of directors for the Cheltenham Center for the Arts and on the Whitpain Township Shade Tree Commission.

Hon. Karoline Mehalchick

The Honorable Karoline Mehalchick is a United States District Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. She was appointed by President Joseph Biden and confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 2024. Prior to her appointment as a District Judge, she served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania for over ten years, having been appointed to that position in July 2013. She also served as Chief Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania from January 2020 until the time of her appointment as a District Judge. Prior to entering on duty with the court in 2013, Judge Mehalchick was in private practice, where she represented a broad range of clients in both state and federal trial and appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court. She is a graduate of the Schreyer Honors College of the Pennsylvania State University (B.S. Geosciences), and the Tulane University School of Law. After graduation, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable Trish Corbett, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County. Judge Mehalchick was also an adjunct professor at Marywood University from 2003 until 2012. Judge Mehalchick presides over the Scranton location of the Court-Assisted Re-Entry Program (CARE Court), coordinates the Court’s summer intern program, and sits on the Court’s Prisoner Litigation Settlement Program Committee, a program which she helped establish in early 2015. Judge Mehalchick is a member of the Workplace Conduct Committee of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. She has previously served as a member of the Judicial Conference Codes of Conduct Committee, and on the Magistrate Judges Advisory Group of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. Judge Mehalchick is an active member of the Federal Bar Association, currently serving as National Treasurer and is the nominee for President-Elect of the Association. She is the immediate past Chair of the Judiciary Division and is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Judge Mehalchick previously served as an FBA Third Circuit Vice President for five years, on the national Board of Directors for three years, as a judicial profiles editor for The Federal Lawyer, and is a past president of the Middle District of Pennsylvania Chapter. Judge Mehalchick is also active in the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession and is a past president of the Younger Lawyers Division of the Lackawanna Bar Association. In addition to her work with the court and with the Federal Bar Association, Judge Mehalchick participates in weekly Scholar Exchanges through the National Constitution Center, leading middle and high school students in discussions about constitutional issues and civil discourse. Outside of the legal community, Judge Mehalchick is Vice President of Production for the Ballet Theatre of Scranton.
