NJ Continuing Legal Education Course FAQs
PBI has over 60 years of continuing legal education experience. We offer fully accredited courses for New Jersey CLE compliance. Choose from Live Webcasts and On-Demand Videos for every learning style. The Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s courses are designed to serve partners, solo attorneys, and new professionals alike.
Attorneys in New Jersey must complete 24 CLE credits every two years, including:
- 12 Live Credits (in-person or live webcast)
- 5 Ethics Credits
- 2 Diversity, Inclusion & Elimination of Bias Credits
Ethics and professionalism credits cover topics like attorney conduct, legal malpractice, judicial bias, client communication, and professional responsibility. Of the 5 required ethics credits, at least 2 must specifically address diversity, inclusion, and elimination of bias. PBI offers accredited ethics and professionalism courses in live webcast and on-demand formats.
Beginning January 1, 2027, New Jersey attorneys must complete one credit per two-year reporting cycle in technology related subjects. Qualifying topics include cybersecurity, privacy, data protection, and the use of artificial intelligence in legal practice. PBI offers accredited technology CLE courses covering these areas.
Yes. Attorneys may complete up to 12 of their 24 credits via alternate verifiable learning formats such as on-demand video, eBooks, and podcasts.
Live CLE includes in-person seminars and live webcasts where the instructor is present in real time. PBI offers numerous accredited live webcast programs.
You must earn 24 total CLE credits every two years, fulfilling specific subject requirements for Ethics, Diversity & Inclusion, and Cybersecurity.
Deadlines depend on your compliance group:
- Group 1 (Birthday Jan–Jun): Complete by Dec 31 of odd-numbered years
- Group 2 (Birthday Jul–Dec): Complete by Dec 31 of even-numbered years
Yes. New Jersey attorneys can carry forward up to 12 excess credits into their next reporting period.
