Overview

Do you need a better understanding of the rights and responsibilities of both the employer and employee in the workplace? Are you, like many lawyers, an employer and must deal with a host of employment matters within your own firm? Are you interested in expanding your practice in the very active field of employment law? Do you just need a refresher on employment law? Are you in-house counsel at a corporation? Does your job require you to have some knowledge of employment law?

You’ll get lots of practical tips for handling the most common leave of absence and wage and hour problems.

It’s a great opportunity to better understand the rights and responsibilities of both the employer and employee in the workplace.

Faculty

Mary Pat Stahler Esq.

Ms. Stahler is Senior Corporate Counsel for Dick’s Sporting Goods. At Dick’s Sporting Goods, she advises the company on all labor and employment issues, including litigation, counseling, and compliance. Ms. Stahler graduated from Duquesne University in 2007 where she majored in History and Pre-Law. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2010, where she served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. After law school, Ms. Stahler served as a clerk for the Honorable Eduardo C. Robreno of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Following her clerkship, Ms. Stahler worked for two large, international law firms (Jones Day and Morgan Lewis & Bockius), where she focused on complex commercial litigation, including class and collective action litigation. 

Valerie Brown Esq.

Ms. Brown is a litigation attorney is Holland & Knight’s Philadelphia office. Ms. Brown has broad experience representing companies in complex litigation, including a variety of commercial, employment, restrictive covenant and putative class action matters. Ms. Brown regularly represents clients in both state and federal courts nationwide as well as before administrative agencies, arbitration tribunals and mediators. Ms. Brown’s practice includes handling complex employment disputes, including high-stakes employment claims, employment collective and class action claims, restrictive covenant cases, and single plaintiff employment litigation. Ms. Brown also has represented companies in traditional labor matters and has significant strike management and related litigation experience. In addition, Ms. Brown provides training and guidance related to employment practices and litigation avoidance, including training on and review of anti-harassment policies, workplace investigation practices, employment applications and process, drug testing policies, and employee discipline policies and practices. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Brown worked as an in-house employment lawyer for a public company. Ms. Brown received her B.A., cum laude, from The Ohio State University and her J.D., cum laude, from Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law.

Neelima Vanguri Esq.

Ms. Vanguri is an associate at the Philadelphia law firm of Sidney L. Gold & Associates, P.C., which has been recognized by the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register as a preeminent law firm in the field of employment law and civil rights litigation. Her practice, as well as that of the law firm, is exclusively concentrated in the representation of both employees and employers in all aspects of employment related litigation, including claims under federal and state antidiscrimination laws and federal civil rights laws. She has extensive experience counseling employers regarding compliance with Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA and FMLA. Ms. Vanguri has significant experience in representing both private sector and public sector employees and employers in employment and civil rights matters. She has litigated complex employment cases before courts throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and has been admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Ms. Vanguri is on the executive committee of the Temple Law Alumni Association as well as a member of the South Asian Bar Association. Ms. Vanguri is a 2009 graduate of Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Teleicia Dambreville Esq.

Ms. Dambreville serves as Employment Counsel for Burlington Stores, Inc., a Fortune 500 company of more than 50,000 employees, with locations throughout the continental United States. In her role as in-house employment counsel, she manages Burlington’s employment litigation portfolio, including administrative proceedings, federal and state litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. Ms. Dambreville develops litigation strategy, oversees outside counsel and handles all aspects of the arbitral process under Burlington’s early dispute resolution program. She is also responsible for providing rapid, practical, business-oriented legal advice regarding all areas of employment law and employee relations to internal clients, including executive team members, Human Resources and Operations. Prior to joining Burlington’s in-house legal team, Ms. Dambreville was a member of the Labor, Employment, Benefits, and Immigration Section at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC’s Philadelphia Office. Her national employment law practice encompassed various aspects of litigation and proactive counseling. Ms. Dambreville has extensive experience representing management in employment litigation matters, including single-Plaintiff discrimination cases, class and collective actions and traditional labor disputes. Ms. Dambreville earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, and her law degree from The Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law in University Park where she was among 13 young professionals awarded the 2019 Penn State Alumni Association Alumni Achievement Award. She is a member of the bar in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Ms. Dambreville serves on the board of directors for the Philadelphia Diversity Legal Group Alumni Association, Penn State Law Alumni Society, Providence Center and the Academy Planning Committee for the National Employment Law Council. 

Edward Mazurek Esq.

Mr. Mazurek has focused on trial practice, litigation and legal counseling. He has successfully represented clients in legal matters involving employment law, commercial disputes, civil rights, discrimination, wage-hour claims, personal injury, class actions, contracts, harassment, and other personal and business-related matters. Mr. Mazurek maintains the highest peer review rating afforded by Martindale and Hubbell of “AV” for both his legal abilities and ethical standards. Additionally, he has repeatedly been included in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in which he is described as an “excellent litigator” and known for his trial skills. Since 2006, he has been selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers®, a designation limited to 5% of all attorneys in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has also been singled-out in the Legal 500 rating publication for his tenacious litigation skills. He has taught and written extensively on a wide range of legal issues and is a veteran speaker and course planner for PBI. Mr. Mazurek received his bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and his juris doctorate from Catholic University in Washington D.C.

Tiffany Cobb Esq.

Tiffany Cobb is a staff attorney in Community Legal Services’ Housing Unit. Before joining the housing unit, she completed a Master’s degree in development and urban studies. She previously worked as a case manager at a shelter for survivors of domestic violence and interned and worked for various nonprofits, focusing on ending and preventing homelessness in Los Angeles, California. Tiffany received her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2020. She received her BA from Vanguard University of Southern California in 2011.

Alice Klair Fitzpatrick, Esq.

Klair Fitzpatrick helps employers navigate a wide range of employment issues. Klair skillfully handles sensitive internal investigations involving alleged claims regarding executives, control functions , sexual harassment, workplace misconduct, and whistleblowing under federal, state, and local laws and advises on appropriate responses and remediation. When litigation occurs, Klair defends employers in complex employment disputes, such as whistleblower complaints, class and collective actions involving systemic discrimination, multi-plaintiff matters, and harassment and discrimination cases. She is deputy leader of the labor and employment practice for the Philadelphia office and a co-leader of the labor and employment practice’s pharmaceutical industry team. Klair’s practice also involves developing compliance strategies for clients addressing US state and federal labor and employment laws across the pharmaceutical, financial services, and legal sectors. She helps clients respond to issues relating to adverse employment actions, harassment, retaliation, and compliance with state and federal laws, and designs mitigation strategies to avoid whistleblower, termination, and discrimination claims, including by advising on employment policies, pay equity, and training and audits. In connection with her work on internal investigations, counseling, and class actions, Klair regularly works with statisticians and other experts to analyze large data sets. She also partners with clients to create crisis management plans to have before harassment allegations are brought, and advises on workplace culture assessments to evaluate companies’ policies, practices, and processes for handling sexual harassment and other workplace complaints. A strong pro bono proponent, Klair sits on the board of Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center. Klair frequently presents on issues relating to retaliation, investigation best practices, the attorney-client privilege, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Jamie L. Ford, Esq.

Ms. Ford is an Associate at the Philadelphia law firm of Sidney L. Gold & Associates, P.C., which has been recognized by the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register as a preeminent law firm in the field of employment law and civil rights litigation. Her practice, as well as that of the law firm, is exclusively concentrated in the representation of both employees and employers in all aspects of employment related litigation, including claims under federal and state anti-discrimination statutes. Ms. Ford gained experience advocating for employees and employers in employment and civil rights matters serving as a clerk for the law firm during her years in law school. Ms. Ford received a Bachelors of Science in Business, cum laude, from West Chester University and a J.S. from Villanova University School of Law, where she was a recipient of the Dean’s Merit Scholarship. 

Christine E. Burke, Esq.

Ms. Burke is a Partner with the Law Offices of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti, P.C., a specialized employment discrimination firm, servicing Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Ms. Burke has tried numerous federal jury trials to successful verdicts on the plaintiff’s side, and frequently litigates in federal courts throughout PA and NJ. Ms. Burke’s employment litigation background also includes appellate work, arguing before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, including one panel with retired Associate Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor, sitting by designation. Ms. Burke’s appellate work in the Third Circuit has resulted in successful reversals in both published and unpublished opinions. Prior to working with the firm, Ms. Burke previously held a prestigious judicial internship with the Honorable Carol Sandra Moore Wells, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as spent time with the Federal Defender’s Office for the District of Delaware. Ms. Burke served as the Executive Director (Southern New Jersey) for the Sidney Reitman Employment Law Inn of Court, and is a current member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Labor Employment Law Committee. She regularly presents on employment related matters for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and has presented for the Federal Bench Bar, NITA, NJSBA and NJICLE. Ms. Burke has been designated by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star, 2019-2020, as Super Lawyer 2022-2023. Ms. Burke is also an adjunct Faculty Professor for Rutgers School of Law-Camden where she teaches for their Trial Advocacy Program.
