Faculty

Hon. Bret M. Binder

Judge Binder is the son of David F. Binder. In 2002 he received his B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2004, he received his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law where he received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship. During law school, he clerked for Judge James R. Cavanaugh on the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Upon graduation from law school, he clerked for two years for Justice Sandra Schultz Newman on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He then joined the former boutique Philadelphia law firm Conrad, O’Brien, Gellman & Rohn. He practiced as a member of the litigation department until 2007, when he established his own law firm. He was a founder and managing partner of the West Chester law firm of Binder & Canno, concentrating on commercial litigation, real estate transactions, small business law, and election law. In 2017, Judge Binder was elected as a magisterial district judge. In 2019, he was elected to the Court of Common Pleas of Chester County where he is currently the administrative judge of the civil division as well as chair of the local civil rules committee. In 2022, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court appointed him to its Committee on Rules of Evidence. He is currently chairman of the committee. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Chester County Bar Associations and is a former member of the West Chester District School Board. He is currently on the boards of multiple local charities in the West Chester area. He has been the owner, or part owner, of various local small businesses and real estate companies.

David F. Binder, Esq.

David Binder, recently retired as a partner in the Philadelphia firm of Gold, Silverman, Goldenberg & Binder, served on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Ad Hoc Committee on Evidence, which drafted the Pennsylvania Rules of Evidence. He also served for many years on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s permanent Committee on Evidence. He is a former member of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Civil Procedural Rules Committee. A Judge Pro Tem for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas from 1991 to 1997, Mr. Binder is one of the foremost authorities on evidence issues in the Commonwealth.
