Overview

Attendees will explore key privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and evolving state-specific regulations, as well as industry standards and enforcement trends. The session will also address data breach response requirements, third-party risk management, cross-border data transfers, and emerging issues such as AI-generated data, biometric privacy, and digital surveillance.

Faculty

Christopher E. Ezold, Esq.

Christopher E. Ezold acts as outside general counsel for his business clients, and advises on corporate matters, finance (startup through private equity), equity and asset purchases, mergers and acquisitions, taxation of transactions, corporate and investor rights, technology issues, contracts, operational matters, employment issues, intellectual property rights, and licensing and regulatory compliance. Mr. Ezold works with his professional and executive clients throughout their careers, advising on career strategies, employment contracts, equity rights, taxation of deferred compensation and equity, noncompetition and nonsolicitation agreements, business and career exits, and disputes. He focuses on advising physicians and health care providers on employment, licensure, credentialing, regulatory compliance, responses to internal and government investigations, and practice purchases and sales. Mr. Ezold provides wrap-around legal services to biotech, life sciences, and health care practices, advising not only on business and employment matters, but how to navigate the increasingly complex regulatory obligations they face, including HIPAA/HITECH, Stark and Anti-Kickback, FDA matters, OCR investigations, and more. He also represents business and individual clients in litigating commercial, business, and employment matters in trial, appellate court, and before federal and state agencies. Mr. Ezold has been general counsel for a software and analytics company providing a blockchain SAAS solution to dispensers to comply with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act, handling corporate, licensing, finance, employment, and other matters.

Antonia Dumas, Esq., CIPP/E

Antonia (Toni) Dumas is an attorney, privacy and cybersecurity professional, and adjunct law professor. She worked with Deloitte Global’s Confidentiality, Privacy, and AI Governance team, where she managed global privacy risk initiatives, vendor oversight and cross-border transfers, and cross-functional assessments. She also practiced law at boutique and national firms specializing in privacy, cybersecurity, and technology law, advising clients across industries on compliance, contracts, risk, and emerging technologies. Her expertise covers “data risk” and the intersection of privacy and cybersecurity including U.S. federal and state privacy laws, global data protection frameworks, cross-border compliance, and global industry frameworks (including NIST and ISO). Based in DC, Toni works closely with business stakeholders across geographies to interpret complex legal frameworks and implement proactive compliance programs. She is the founder of two privacy-focused businesses, Data Pilots, Inc. and Data Risk Group LLC, which provide assessments, training, and tools to make privacy practical and affordable for SMBs. In academia, she’s an adjunct professor of law in the J.D. program at Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law, where she teaches Cybersecurity and Data Protection Law and European Data Protection Law. She is passionate about teaching and mentorship, and she helps professionals and students navigate the complex areas of privacy and cybersecurity, from both legal and practical perspectives.
