Worried about online scams, phishing, bad faith competitors, and other types of cybersquatting? Sit in on this presentation of how trademark rights are used (and sometimes misused) against internet domain names that engage in these sketchy activities. Co-presented by an arbitrator for the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (”UDRP”) and an attorney who has filed UDRP complaints, you’ll walk away from this session with a greater understanding of this global domain name dispute process, some of the recent developments and decisions that shape its jurisprudence, and a couple of predictions on where this very niche corner of intellectual property practice is heading over the next few years.

Recorded at the Technology Institute in March 2023.

Steven Levy Esq.

In his over 30 years of practice, Mr. Levy’s experience has been quite broad, but he has a particular focus on the enforcement of trademarks against domain names and social media usernames. Over the last 14 years, Mr. Levy has filed over 600 complaints under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and similar domain name dispute arbitration policies. He is also a UDRP panelist (arbitrator) for three of the global dispute providers and has authored decisions in over 300 cases. Prior to creating the Accent Law Group, Mr. Levy led an eight-member intellectual property practice team at the Home Depot. Mr. Levy has handled tasks as varied as building an international portfolio of trademarks, copyrights and patents; negotiating and drafting sponsorship, licensing and joint-venture agreements; enforcing and defending his clients’ rights through negotiation and litigation; and creating and presenting many educational programs for both clients and outside audiences. He received his J.D. in 1989 from Brooklyn Law School and his B.S. from SUNY at Buffalo. Mr. Levy is a member of the bar in Pennsylvania, New York, and the District of Columbia. He currently serves on the Internet Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA) as well as on the Rights Protection Mechanisms Review Working Group at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

She practices in the area of intellectual property law, with a focus on trademarks and copyrights providing advice to clients regarding their intellectual property from a business perspective.
