Overview
Ethics Compliance Crusher is a practical, ethics-focused program that examines the issues that most often keep lawyers up at night and how those concerns affect professional judgment, well-being, and compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct. Drawing on real-world attorney ethics hotline inquiries, the program explores the ten most common and anxiety-producing ethical issues faced by practicing lawyers, including conflicts of interest, client communications, confidentiality, trust accounting, competence, and supervision. Attendees will gain practical guidance on how these issues arise in everyday practice, why they are frequently misunderstood, and how to identify and address them before they escalate into disciplinary or malpractice problems.
Presented from both an ethics and Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) perspective, the program also addresses the connection between unresolved ethical stress and mental health challenges and substance misuse in the legal profession. Attendees will learn about free, confidential LCL resources available to Pennsylvania attorneys and their families and will be introduced to evidence-based strategies for managing stress and improving decision-making, including a hands-on introduction to mindfulness and the science of it.
Faculty
Courtney B. Schulnick, Esq.
Courtney Schulnick, J.D., is a mindfulness instructor and litigator. In an effort to better manage her anxiety and the stressors associated with litigation and life in general, she enrolled in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program offered at the Center for Mindfulness at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA. Courtney noticed the ways in which the practice of mindfulness increasingly enriched her life on both a professional and personal level. A desire to deepen her own practice and share the gift of mindfulness with others encouraged her to complete the mindfulness teaching program at Jefferson, where she now teaches the MBSR program and graduate-level courses. She pursues her passion of helping people by teaching mindfulness so that they, too, can live more fully in the present moment and achieve greater balance, vitality and health. Perhaps her greatest teachers of all time are her husband, and three young boys, with whom she enjoys spending time and exploring their new hometown of Haddonfield, New Jersey.
