Overview

As the population ages and life expectancy increases, attorneys are increasingly called upon to help clients navigate the legal and financial challenges of long-term care. This program offers a comprehensive overview of long-term care planning for clients age 65 and older, with a focus on holistic models for creating successful client outcomes.

Participants will gain practical guidance on practical estate planning considerations for aging clients and families; practical guidance for talking taxes with families; long-term care planning considerations (with a focus on payment for care planning); and family communication in elder law. The course also addresses key ethical issues that arise when advising aging clients, including capacity assessments, conflicts of interest, and working with family members.

Whether you're new to elder law or looking to deepen your understanding of long-term care options and legal tools, this program provides the foundation you need to serve older clients with confidence and care.

Topics Include:

• Estate Planning considerations for the aging client

• Tax considerations for non-specialized practitioners

• Long-term care options, including when and how to leverage public benefits

• Tying it all together: practical solutions for enhancing family communication and shared decision making

Recorded in August 2025.
