Get certified as an arbitrator for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

With this course, you will:

– Learn practical “do’s and don’ts” advice for first-time arbitrators
– Examine ethical dilemmas posed by the arbitration process
– Attend a Mock Arbitration

During a mock hearing, learn from the attorneys who have both served as arbitrators and presented cases in arbitration as they answer attendee questions.

Faculty

Andrew Dashevsky Esq.

Mr. Dashevsky is a
trial attorney and partner at the law firm of Dashevsky, Horwitz, Kuhn,
Novello & Shorr, P.C. who specializes in the areas of personal injury
and premises liability in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He received his
Bachelor of Arts degree from West Chester University in 1995 and earned his
Juris Doctor Degree from the Widener University School of Law in 1999. In
2006, he earned a Masters of Law in Trial Advocacy, with honors, from the
Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law. Mr. Dashevsky is known for
his dedication and passion for representing his clients, and as a result, he
has not only obtained great success in protecting his injured clients and
their interests, but has also earned him recognition from his peers. From
2007 through 2013 he was among a select group of attorneys featured in the
Pennsylvania Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” edition of Philadelphia
Magazine, a listing which included the top 2.5% of the best up-and-coming
attorneys in the state who are 40 years or younger or who have been
practicing less than 10 years. Mr. Dashevsky is a member of the Philadelphia
Bar Association, Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and Pennsylvania
Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Philadelphia Trial
Lawyers’ President Select Committee & Future Leaders Select
Committee. He is a former Co-Chair of the Philadelphia Municipal Court
Committee for both the Civil and Criminal Divisions, and has lectured at the
annual Municipal Court Judicial Conference on issues of civil litigation.
From 2014-2016 he served as Co-Chair of the Philadelphia County Compulsory
Arbitration Committee. Currently, Mr. Dashevsky has been selected by the
Philadelphia County Board of Governors to serve as the 2016-2018 Co-Chair of
the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Rules and Procedures Committee, which
Committee evaluates the performance of the judicial system in and for
Philadelphia County and state courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He
is also active in Public Service in Philadelphia by volunteering for
appointments of Pro Bono matters through the Philadelphia Volunteers for the
Indigent Program (“V.I.P.”), providing legal services free of
charge to low-income clients who have legal problems in the Philadelphia
area. In 2009 and 2010, he was recognized by the judiciary for his exemplary
public service work by being included in the First Judicial District of
Pennsylvania’s Pro Bono Roll of Honor. Mr. Dashevsky’s court admissions
include, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, State of New Jersey, Unites States
District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, United States District
Courts, District of New Jersey and the Supreme Court of the United States of
America.

Jennifer Santiago Esq.

Jennifer A. Santiago is Trial Counsel with Client Legal Services for Allstate Insurance Companies. Ms. Santiago earned her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania, her M.S. in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph’s University, and her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law. Upon graduation from Temple, Ms. Santiago worked for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. She subsequently served as Judicial Law Clerk in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia County.  Following her clerkship, Ms. Santiago open her own legal practice as a Sole Practitioner focusing on Criminal Defense and Family Law.  Ms. Santiago later shifted her legal trajectory by becoming Staff Counsel for Allstate Insurance Company.  Ms. Santiago once more shifted and went to work for a Plaintiff’s firm for a period before returning to Allstate.  Ms. Santiago’s work as Defense Counsel has allowed countless representations in the Court of Common Pleas Compulsory Arbitration program as well as the Major Trials program in multiple counties including Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery, and Delaware. 

Kristine Meindl Esq.

Ms. Meindl is a partner with Palmer & Barr, P.C. in Philadelphia, and has over 20 years of extensive experience as a trial attorney. Ms. Meindl focuses her practice on all aspects of Pennsylvania and New Jersey civil defense litigation. Ms. Meindl has accumulated a tremendous amount of trial experience resulting in over 60 cases tried to verdict. Ms. Meindl’s far-reaching jury trial experience has enabled her to form a deep knowledge of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Court systems. She has a unique understanding of how juries interpret evidence, which she uses to assist her clients in evaluating claims before and during litigation. Ms. Meindl is in the courtroom so often that she has forged relationships that provide access and understanding to the legal system that is unparalleled in the region. She has a keen understanding of the processes and cultures of the insurance defense world and can navigate through other forums such as alternative dispute resolution and arbitration. These skills have afforded Ms. Meindl to offer efficient and practical counsel on behalf of her clients, which is proven through her results. Additionally, she is frequently asked to present and give insight on her experiences in the courtroom. Ms. Meindl concentrates her practice on automotive negligence and premises liability. Her vast automotive experience entails: special investigations, underinsured and uninsured motorist claims, personal injury protection benefit cases and coverage analysis. She has spent years navigating the intricacies of automotive law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has translated that knowledge into effective representation of several major nationwide insurance companies. She also focuses her practice on general retail liability, including slip and falls, healthcare premises liability, theft, elevator malfunction, construction defects and assault and battery cases. She has been a lead attorney handling work for a regional food retailer and works on loss prevention with risk management from the ground level up to the top corporate positions. Ms. Meindl is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She is also admitted into the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court of New Jersey. She is also a member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Defense Institute. When she is not practicing law, Kris enjoys spending quality time with her daughter and husband, relaxing at the shore and discovering new restaurants. She is passionate about giving back to organizations that help children, especially through toy and clothing drives.

Stephen Negro Esq.

Mr. Negro is the sole proprietor of the firm Law Office of Stephen J. Negro, LLC, and devotes his practice entirely to sitting as the Sole Arbitrator in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) cases; as the Neutral Arbitrator in Underinsured Motorist/Uninsured Motorist cases, and panel cases; and as a Mediator. His practice includes all areas of civil litigation, including premises liability, UM/UIM, dog bites, and motor vehicle liability, as well as subrogation matters. He was previously with several litigation firms in the course of over 25 years of civil litigation practice. Mr. Negro has participated in hundreds of Common Pleas arbitrations, as well as numerous bench trials and jury trials, and presided over hundreds of arbitrations, mediations and ADRs, during his many years of practice in civil litigation. Mr. Negro’s Arbitration/Mediation services are utilized by all major insurance carriers. He received his B. S. from the Pennsylvania State University and his J. D. from Delaware Law School, Widener University. He is also a faculty panel member on the UM/UIM and Limited Tort CLE courses, representing the perspective of the Neutral Arbitrator; in addition to the Compulsory Arbitration CLE.

Virginia King Esq.

Virginia is the Founder and Managing Member of ViKing Law, a personal injury and business law firm located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  Prior to opening ViKing Law, Virginia was an insurance defense attorney for 17 years and a partner at a national defense firm in Philadelphia.  She has won several personal injury trials and arbitrations, both as a defense attorney and while serving as plaintiff’s counsel.  Her main practice areas include automobile, bicycle, and premises liability, construction accidents, bad faith, defamation, and product defects.  In 2023 she won the Women Entrepreneurs Award from Best Vendor, has been a Super Lawyer every year since 2020, and a Rising Star almost every year prior since 2013.  Virginia graduated from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2005, and University of Miami with a Bachelor of Business in 2002.  She is an executive committee member for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society eastern division “Light the Night Walk” and “Big Climb” events.  She is also the current President of the BNI Warrington Regional Chapter.  

Arthur Novello Esq.

Mr. Novello is a
partner in the law firm of Dashevsky, Horwitz, Kuhn, Novello and Shorr, P.C.,
which maintains offices in both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Haddonfield,
New Jersey. He is admitted into practice and has tried numerous cases in the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and State of New Jersey. Mr. Novello is a
graduate of Temple University (BBA) and the Widener University School of Law
(JD) Mr. Novello is a past member of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Board of
Directors. Mr. Novello is currently a Senior Hearing Committee Member on
behalf of the Disciplinary Board of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has
served as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas
since the inception of the program and is frequently asked to serve as a
neutral arbitrator and mediator. He is a member of the Alternative Dispute
Resolution, Arbitration and Senior Attorney Committees of the Philadelphia
Bar Association. He has served as President of the Girard Estate Area
Residents Civic Association and is currently on the Board of Directors for
the Packer Park Civic Association, Stadium Council Special Services District
and the Widener University School of Law. Mr. Novello has made numerous
television appearances as a legal consultant. He has lectured on numerous
occasions to the judiciary and members of both the medical and legal
communities on substantive and ethical issues. Mr. Novello lectures in the
Temple University Law School LLM program. Mr. Novello has repeatedly been
designated a “Super Lawyer” and awarded the highest rating by his peers and
judges, including an “AV” rating in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Mr.
Novello has repeatedly been designated to be in the Top One Percent of the
lawyers in the United States.

Maureen Eagen Esq.

Ms. Eagen has been the director of the Arbitration Center since 2014. Prior to her appointment as director, Ms. Eagen was law clerk to the Honorable D. Webster Keogh, who was assigned to the Major Civil Trial division, Day Forward program. Ms. Eagen also clerked for Judge Keogh during his tenure as administrative judge and supervising judge of the Criminal Trial division. For approximately five years, Ms. Eagen served as a law clerk to various senior judges in the Criminal Trial Division handling major felony cases. Ms. Eagen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Scranton with a B.S. in economics/finance in 1988. She received her J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law in 1991. After law school, Ms. Eagen clerked for the Honorable Leon Katz and the Honorable Albert John Snite, Jr., before returning to Northeastern Pennsylvania. There, she worked for three years as a litigation associate with Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald. She returned to Philadelphia in 1996 and worked for Post & Schell, as well as Rubintate, Jacobs & Saba. During her tenure with the FJD, she has helped coordinate the “Law Day” trials for the Early Education Program with the Honorable Annette Rizzo (retired) and participated in the FJD’s Management Development Program and Civil Education, Training and Development Program. Ms. Eagen also served for six years as a Board member, including as vice-president and president, of the Board of Trustees for Independence Charter School, Philadelphia, PA
