Overview

Just because you’re solo doesn’t mean you need to go it alone

Going to trial for a solo attorney can seem like a daunting task. Get the pointers you need. 

This program will provide concrete strategies and guidance for the solo attorney preparing to go to trial.  Discussion topics will include: 

  • Developing your message
  • Organizing your presentation
  • Preparing demonstrative evidence
  • Litigation ethics – Rules, real stories, and regrets.

Faculty

Petra Gross Esq.

Petra K. Gross is a Shareholder of Martson Law Offices. Ms. Gross has been with the firm since 2018 when she joined as a seasoned litigator with a particular interest in the field of Criminal Defense. She has tried numerous cases to verdict, ranging from Homicide to DUI. She has experience representing juveniles in a variety of matters and has drafted and argued appeals before the Pennsylvania Superior and Supreme Courts. Ms. Gross’s practice extends to both Federal and State Court. She is admitted to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the Third Circuit. She is an active member of Pennsylvania’s Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where she serves as the Advocacy Committee Chair, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and various County Bar Associations including Cumberland, Dauphin, and Juniata. Ms. Gross is a native of Central Pennsylvania. She graduated from Camp Hill High School and attended Penn State – Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle where she currently serves as an adjunct professor and coach to the law school’s National Trial Team.

Claude E. Ducloux, Esq.

Claude E. Ducloux has been licensed in Texas since 1977 and has also been licensed in California and Colorado. In 2011, he won the highest statewide award from the State Bar of Texas for lifetime contribution to CLE (the Gene Cavin Award). He has spoken at more than 800 programs throughout the United States since January 1, 2016, where attendees regularly rate his presentations very highly. Mr. Ducloux has a long legacy of bar service, including service as president of the Austin Bar Association, chair of the Texas Bar Foundation, and service as chair of many other bar-related entities. He is Board-Certified in Civil Trial Law and Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is the former chair of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics. He retired May 31, 2025, as the National Director of Education, Ethics, and State Compliance for Affinipay-LawPay. During his career, he has been honored with numerous awards for writing, pro bono service, and contributions to the law in the field of litigation. As of January 1, 2025, more than 132 of his articles on the practice of law have been published in bar journals and legal media.
