Overview
Understanding Rules 1.4 and 1.6 in the Attorney-Client Relationship
Clear communication and confidentiality are cornerstones of every strong attorney-client relationship—but are you fully up to date on your ethical duties under Rules 1.4 and 1.6 of the Rules of Professional Conduct?
In this essential ethics CLE, we’ll take a practical and in-depth look at:
- Rule 1.4 – Communication: What are your obligations to inform, consult, and advise? Learn how to avoid common communication pitfalls and how to maintain responsiveness and clarity throughout representation.
- Rule 1.6 – Confidentiality of Information: From traditional client secrets to modern data protection, understand what you must (and must not) disclose—and when exceptions may apply.
You’ll explore how these two rules interact in real-world scenarios, and explore case law, in this program.
Recorded in August 2025.
