Overview

Federal, state, and local tax law continue to shift following OBBBA, evolving IRS enforcement priorities, and key tax-related developments before the U.S. Supreme Court. Pennsylvania practitioners must also navigate state and local responses to federal changes.

This program will highlight major 2026 tax developments, Pennsylvania-specific considerations, and practical planning strategies for 2027 and beyond.

Faculty

Kelly Phillips Erb, Esq.

Kelly Phillips Erb is a managing shareholder at The Erb Law Firm, P.C., in Paoli, Pennsylvania, where she focuses her practice on tax law, including trusts and estates, domestic and international tax planning, and tax controversy matters. She represents individuals, families, fiduciaries, and businesses in matters involving tax delinquencies, audits, collection issues, estate and gift tax, foreign reporting obligations, and cross-border tax concerns. Kelly often says that she helps taxpayers get out of—and, whenever possible, stay out of—trouble. Kelly earned her J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from Temple University School of Law and is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Tax Court. In addition to practicing law, she writes tax news and analysis for Forbes and is widely known as Taxgirl. Her work has appeared in CNN Money, NPR’s Marketplace, the BBC, Time, Forbes Magazine, Esquire, Martha Stewart Living, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and the ABA Journal. She is a frequent speaker on tax law and policy, an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and has been recognized by International Tax Review’s Global Tax 50, the Philadelphia Business Journal’s “40 Under 40,” and the Pennsylvania Bar Association Solo and Small Firm Practice Section.

Matthew Piatt, CPA, JD

Matt is the State and Local Tax (SALT) Practice Leader in RKL’s Tax Services Group. Matt’s expertise spans a range of tax categories, including income, franchise, gross receipts and sales and use tax. His services are wide-ranging and include nexus studies, voluntary disclosure agreements, taxability determinations, sourcing/apportionment issues, SALT M&A due diligence and return review. Although Matt’s expertise benefits various industry sectors, he has substantial experience working with private equity, strategic buyers and closely held businesses. Matt has over ten years of experience in accounting and finance, with a primary focus on state and local tax. He has worked at Big Four accounting firms, a large law firm, assisted in running a family business, and held a leadership role in the SALT M&A practice at a top 20 CPA firm.
