Overview
Understanding Psychoneuroimmunology: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine
The scientific literature covering the etiology of chronic pain, trauma, and stress has exponentially expanded in the past ten years. In fact, this scientific field, called psychoneuroimmunology, has now integrated many fields of treatment approaches that were once thought to be different from each other.
Shifting from Reactive to Restorative: The Future of Legal Wellness
This course will teach “why” you (and your client’s) health status and cognitive functioning is what it is, and “what” and “how” you can do more than you know in less time than you think to restore it. In other words, learn how it’s possible to return to optimal physical and cognitive wellness and performance in less than 30 minutes a day for 30 days.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define psychoneuroimmunology.
- Define secondary trauma
- Explain the basic physiological process of the body’s reactions to chronic stress and secondary trauma
- List at least three daily exercises that heal and prevent the negative impact of chronic stress and secondary trauma

Dr. Alexandra Milspaw is a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania and South Dakota, an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist, an International Pelvic Pain Specialist Designee, and a Board Certified Hypnotist. Dr. Milspaw is the Vice President of the International Pelvic Pain Society and has been the Director of their Clinical Foundations Training Course since 2018. Dr. Milspaw specializes in post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain and sexual health. Her life’s work and passion is aimed towards bridging the gap between the medical and psychological worlds, hoping to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in improving the lives of both patient and practitioner.
