Overview
Many elder and estate law attorneys prepare Advanced Directives for their clients. This course examines the intersection of legal and medical considerations when preparing these documents and provides legal professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the legal, medical, ethical, and emotional aspects of advanced care planning and to foster effective collaboration between legal and medical professionals in this context. Interactive discussions and real-life case studies are integrated throughout the course to enhance engagement and practical learning.

Faculty
Emily Kahn, MSW
Emily Kahn, MSW joined the Kreisher Marshall and Associates team in August 2024. She serves as an Elder Care Coordinator, providing support, advocacy, and assistance to Life Care Planning (LCP) clients as they move through the aging process. She takes extra care to support family members and other individuals involved in the care of our clients. Emily is a native of Washington, DC. She graduated from Kenyon College in 2004 and received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Kentucky in 2009. She served as a therapist and caseworker on inpatient psychiatric units in the Bloomsburg area for four years, and then joined the Hospice team, providing end-of-life care to Hospice patients for five years. Beginning in 2021, she served as an Elder Care Coordinator for an Elder Law Firm in Lebanon, PA before joining KMA. In addition to her work at KMA, she also helped to develop a Social Work program at the Bloomsburg Public Library in early 2024, where she offers a weekly Grief Support group, as well as other services to Library patrons and the greater Bloomsburg community. She also joined the Board of Directors at The Women’s Center of Columbia and Montour Counties, and serves on the Personnel Committee for Greenwood Friends School.
In her free time, Emily enjoys reading, walking/hiking, and traveling with her family and friends. She lives in Bloomsburg with her spouse, Eric, two daughters, Allison and Meredith, and their loveable dog, Leonard.
Leah Klingerman
Leah is an EHR project manager at Mount Nittany Health in State College, where she practices under multiple disciplines across the organization. Currently, she serves as the clinical applications lead for the organization’s electronic heath record transition project. She earned her B.A. from Bucknell University in 2021 and graduated summa cum laude from Penn State University with her Masters in Healthcare Administration (MHA). After Penn State, Leah served as a faculty assistant and curriculum developer for Harvard Medical School’s Master in Clinical Service Operations program. Leah continued her studies by joining the Jewish Healthcare Foundation for their Death and Dying Fellowship. She holds a certificate in from JHF after the completion of this fellowship course. Here she spent time learning, confronting, and discussing the legal, medical, social, cultural, familial, and spiritual aspects of death and dying within a multidisciplinary group. She is a member of Dementia Friends Pennsylvania, Project Management Institute, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.
Marianne E. Kreisher, Esq., NCG, CELA
Ms. Kreisher is a Partner at Kreisher Marshall & Associates, LLC in Bloomsburg, where she practices in the areas of elder law, estate planning and administration, guardianship, special needs planning and estate litigation. She earned her B.A. from Penn State University in 1993 and graduated cum laude from Widener Law School in Harrisburg in 1996. Following law school, Ms. Kreisher worked in the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office for eight years as a deputy attorney general handling criminal appeals, grand jury investigations and criminal prosecutions. Ms. Kreisher is a certified elder law attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation as well as a National Certified Guardian by the Center for Guardianship Certification. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the National Guardianship Association, the Pennsylvania Guardianship Network, the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association, and she serves on the Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Ms. Kreisher has served as adjunct professor at Central Penn College and is a regular presenter for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute continuing education programs. She is the President of the Bloomsburg Area School Board, and Past President of the Bloomsburg Kiwanis Club and Columbia/Montour County Bar Association.
