VA Pension and Aid & Attendance is a valuable safety net that provides tax free income to our clients who are war time veterans (or surviving spouses). A veteran and spouse can receive up to $2,169/month, a single veteran up to $1,830/month, and a surviving spouse up to $1,176/month. These are clients whose income is being consumed by unreimbursed medical expenses for things such as health care, adult day care, or personal care facilities. After October 18, 2018, claimants will now be subject to complex Medicaid-like eligibility rules including: asset limits, 36 month look-back period and transfer penalties. The new rules also substantially impact the use of trusts and annuities in helping clients qualify for benefits. If you work in the areas of trust and estate planning and elder law, this is a must attend webinar!
